Mechanical Engineer - Stockton Based

Wood are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer with Tanks / Static / Rotating Equipment expertise to join us on a permanent staff basis in the North East. The Mechanical Teams within Process & Energy are supporting the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation project that will unlock a low carbon future and the world’s first commercial scale plant, including Energy Efficiency, Emissions Reduction FEED and Detailed Design projects.

The division is also supporting a UK based rare-earth metal refining facility, supporting our Client’s ambition to create a sustainable supply of magnet metal rare earths vital for the electric vehicle, offshore wind turbine and other strategic industries. 

Day to Day responsibilities:

• Manage your workload and budget, responding to client requirements as they arise.
• Provide technical support to Engineering studies such as design reviews, HAZOP, SIL, and Constructability reviews.
• Review and develop equipment data sheets, specifications and enquiry requisitions.
• Evaluate supplier quotations in preparation for purchase order.
• Review of documentation and specification requirements for integration within project.
• Prepare and manage project documentation effectively.
• Proactively support requirements of other engineering discipline teams to enable concurrent design activities.
• Input to value engineering and cost saving initiatives.

The appointed Engineer will also:

• Positively engage with suppliers to enable rapid design development, efficient problem solving and clear communication with the Wood engineering team.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary review of supplier documentation, consolidate comments and return these to the supplier after resolving any conflicts.
• Correspond with Suppliers on technical matters and ensure that timely action is taken where necessary to maintain quality, cost and schedule agreements.

• Degree qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Working knowledge of tank design codes and standards.
• Experience of working on multi-discipline engineering projects, with clients and supplier/manufacturers.
• Industry experience within Metals Refining, Refinery, Energy, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas.
• Experience of managing and coordinating Supplier design and manufacturing activities to support an engineering project, including co-ordination meetings and supporting engineering design reviews.
• Flexible attitude with proven experience of effective working in a project team environment.
• Skilled with MS office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc).

It will be advantageous if the candidate has:

• Recent experience of design and manufacture of FRP tanks and equipment for UK or European market.
• Knowledge of Finglow, PV Elite, HTRI.
