Wood is recruiting for Data Engineer to join our Vibration, Dynamics & Noise (VDN) team within our Asset Performance Optimisation Consulting business.

The Role

 

We are seeking to recruit a Data Engineer to an exciting and challenging role, offering the opportunity to be part of a leading organisation. The work will be delivered within a small agile team of Engineers, Data Scientists, and Domain Experts.

 

We are looking for someone who can help our clients to optimise their asset maintenance through data mining and management, as well as automating data processing and creating bespoke visualisations and software solutions.

 

This role is based in either Glasgow or Southampton UK offices (including option of hybrid home working) although occasional travel may be necessary to visit other offices and clients.

Typical responsibilities

 

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with internal and external clients as well as technical experts, to help drive decarbonisation and optimisation across a number of industries.

  • Help our clients to optimize their asset management solutions, while understanding their processes and challenges
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to diagnose and resolve issues in our asset management implementations
  • Assist clients and the team in developing, maintaining, and improving their databases
  • Engage in problem solving and actively support processes like data extraction, ingestion, ETL, calculations, outlier analysis, and standard outputs
  • Document, track, and monitor our application's bugs, problems, and issues to ensure timely resolution
  • Checking data and product quality to identify anomalies and inconsistences, and assisting in resolution
  • Developing a processional working relationship with clients, and assisting in the development of workscopes

Expected:

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or similar) with good academic record
  • Experience in data architecture, data integration and data manipulation at scale
  • Experience of software development tools and processes
  • Hands-on experience with data technologies such as relational databases and ETL tools
  • Knowledge of complexities and challenges with ETL solutions and data flow processes
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C# and Python as well as Javascript and web markup languages (html, css, svg)
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Aptitude to solve problems and ability to initiate, refine and complete tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectivity and work as part of a team

At this time, we will only consider applications who have legal permission for full time work in the UK.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in packaged software implementation, end user training on software applications, end user support, or related activities
  • Comfortable with continuous deployment, operation, and monitoring of data solutions and their associated infrastructure
  • Experience with internal and external client interactions
  • Analytical skills and knowledge of statistical methodologies, data / text mining techniques, algorithm development, machine learning and other techniques.
  • Knowledge of different enterprise data mining tools (such as SAS Enterprise Miner).
  • Experience with Azure and visualisation packages such as PowerBI
  • Technically proficient in MS Azure, Azure Synapse, Data Bricks, Data Factory
