Overview / Responsibilities

The position will be part of the Upstream ‘Studies’ team within the Specialist Engineering and Consulting group, based in either Reading or Staines and reporting to the Senior Manager, Studies.


The Role:

  • To provide Process Engineering technical input within Specialist Engineering & Consulting (SEC) and the wider Wood organisation relating to the execution of proposals, studies and projects, in agreement with their Business Line Manager and in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • To develop a clear understanding of the opportunities arising from the energy transition and help our Clients manange energy transition within their existing asset portfolio and on new projects.
  • To develop tools and methods to improve the efficiency and quality of work performed by the group.
  • To represent SEC and Wood in technical presentations to external and internal customers.
  • To attend and assist in developing training modules to enhance the technical skills of personnel within SEC
    and the wider Wood organisation

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:


A Senior / Principal Process Engineer will demonstrate the following competencies:

Demonstrates an on-going ability and interest to improve technically, maintaining current technical knowledge and cultivating relationships with technology providers.
  • Analytical Skills: Uses analytical tools to systematically break a complex problem into its components.  Will consider all inter-related variables and can draw out meaningful conclusions. Is able to simplify the complex in order to communicate findings.
  • Customer Focus: Demonstrates increasing customer focus. Is aware of and is responsive to customer needs without sacrificing the project or corporate objectives.
  • Professional Network: Can always explain how they are contributing towards the success of the business and achievement of business goals. Fully understands the impact of Company policy and regulation on their role. Has a solid professional network both within and outside of their immediate discipline.
  • Commercial Understanding: Has an in depth understanding of Wood's business position and commercial objectives. Is always able to implement and recommend improvements to those commercial objectives. Fully understands and can manage technical and commercial risk.
  • Technical Design: Guides and coaches others to achieve a high standard in technical design using Wood, client and industry standards and data in line with Project requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Needs to drive for improvement from themselves and through the project team. Will anticipate situations / problems before they occur and seek to manage all situations / problems in a controlled and analytical manner to the satisfaction of all main parties. Always learns lessons from successes and failures, and always implements improvements

Skills / Qualifications


  • Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering Discipline or Science
  • Chartered Engineer or Scientist.
  • Member of an appropriate professional institution.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Early phases of project development (feasibility studies, concept design, pre-FEED, master-planning, etc.)
  • CO2 handling projects (pipelines, marine transport, buffer storage, dehydration, compression, injection etc.)
  • Offshore experience (e.g. electrification, offshore green hydrogen developments…
  • Proficient in the use of standard Process Engineering tools and methods.
  • Competent in the use of steady state, dynamic and / or LP modelling software and able to direct / supervise development of models by team members.
