  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for Environment Manager to drive the growth and development of our Environmental Services team in Australia.  

     

    Based in Brisbane, the Environment Manager will report directly to the Regional Director for Qld and sit on the Qld Leadership Team.  You will ideally be a collaborative leader, working closely with our engineering and project delivery teams, and will be a strategic thinker with experience in building consultancy practices.

     

    Along with leading and managing the environment team, key responsibilities for this exciting opportunity include leveraging existing projects and clients to support Wood in its growth plans, developing strong internal and external relationships, and providing critical input into business strategies to foster continued growth.

     

    Responsibilities for the role include:

    • Under limited direction initiate and develop the strategic plan for the environment team, in line with broader business strategies
    • Provide leadership through direct coaching and mentoring of members of the environment team, empowering them to achieve their career development goals and inspiring them to achieve continuous performance improvement
    • Actively participate in the Leadership Team and build effective working relationships with other business managers to share opportunities, resources and knowledge
    • Provide technical expertise and advice to the team and undertake some reimbursable work on relevant projects, regularly at a Project Director or peer review level
    • Create and maintain key client relationships to win work and deliver projects that meet or exceed clients’ expectations
    • Lead project teams through Project Managers to deliver project and business unit deliverables whilst fostering a strong team culture that promotes Wood’s vision, culture and values
    • Lead the health, safety and environmental performance of the environment team

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor or Master’s degree in an environmental or related discipline such as engineer, scientist or planner
    • 15+ years professional experience in environmental science, engineering or management, ideally with some experience in the resources sector
    • Experience and/or broad understanding of environmental consulting
    • Excellent communication skills to enable the establishment of long-term client relationships and further develop a cooperative and positive team environment at Wood
    • Demonstrated ability to relate confidently to people at all levels of industry. An ability to listen and identify key issues and to communicate complex information clearly
    • Understanding and awareness of legislative obligations relating to the environmental services performed by the team
    • Demonstrated ability to analyse situations, identify relevant issues and draw appropriate conclusions
    • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision to set up processes and monitor own work achievements against agreed objectives
    • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously when required, but also understand the value of teamwork
    • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams across multiple geographies
