Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Development Engineer with extensive experience in the Special Purpose Machine or Automaton industry.

The Development Engineer will be responsible;

  •  To performing mechanical engineering activities detailed below with particular emphasis on machine development.
  • To assist Systems Site Manager in his duties in facilities management when required
  • To be part of a multi-disciplined team to provide our customers with high quality machinery and automated solutions 
  • Machine build, assembly and development to Wood standards
  • Keep detailed development and test records for machine build as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of mechanical changes and write up change logs
  • Station and field wiring build to Wood standards and labelling (when required)
  • Plumbing of pneumatic valves, pipework and required labelling
  • Understand and read Wood mechanical drawings and parts lists.
  • Utilise Wood machine tools and workshop facilities to aid development.
  • Keep a tidy work place for quality and H & S requirements.
  • Communicate mechanical  project status and issues to Systems Site Manager and Project Engineers
  • Assist the Systems Site Manager in maintaining the Northampton site when required.
  • Develop and coach juniors and Academy Apprentices
  • To maintain and improve upon personal skills related to the position, through experience and training
  • To comply with the company policy as defined in the Staff Handbook, Safety Manual, and Quality Assurance Manual and Wood Group ethics policy.
  • Other duties as required
  • Site work and commissioning when required.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering and BTEC / City and Guilds or equivalent experience
  • Held a similar role previously
  • Proven mechanical build or development experience
  • Use of machine tools - milling and turning
  • Experience of robot and/or plc programming
  • Microsoft Office competent
  • CAD experience
  • Good Team Member
  • Passion for Quality
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail
