Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an opportunity for four positions of QA Welding Inspector in Brunei. There is an increased demand to deliver our services for the growing Asian market. As a result of this, the Quality Management Function is expanding and evolving to manage the challenges of regional projects that continue to pose challenges in offering our services through a global talent pool.


Job Description: 

  • Commitment to and promotion of Wood’s values and ensuring the realization of Company and project health, safety, environmental, quality and ethics, systems, policies, and procedures
  • Reporting to the Senior QC Inspector and QAQC Manager: the main functions of the role will be to ensure that all inspections of piping, structural, welding, NDT, mechanical activities are performed as per BSP specification and international standards
  • Carry out quality surveillance on fabrication sub - contractors and offshore installation procedures and inspection and test plans to ensure compliance
  • Inspects and tests welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration, and conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications, applying knowledge of welding principles and metallurgical properties
  • Examines joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, using flashlight and magnifying glass
  • Coordination NDT sub - contractor to perform NDT method inspection as per required by BSP Specification e.g. visual test, penetrant test, magnetic test, ultrasonic test, and radiography test
  • Verifies alignment and dimensions of piping, structural and mechanical products
  • Observes techniques and performance of welders in fabrication yard and offshore installation
  • Report / validate progress as required by project team
  • Shall perform a variety of inspection functions with minimal supervision as required to verify compliance with project requirements
  • Prepare daily reports on the work in progress
  • Responsible for timely inspection and QC supervision during fabrication and installation, proactive in the prevention of non - compliance and problem resolution
  • Report any non - complying items to the Senior QC Inspector and QAQC Manager that need to be isolated to prevent inappropriate use
  • Provide weekly input to the QAQC reporting system, with regards to trends and unresolved exceptions and problems
  • Provide early warning of potential quality problems and ensure non - conformances are identified, tracked, and closed
  • Provide expertise to site team to avoid / resolve quality problems
  • Mentor team members as required and directed
  • Conduct aligned duties as directed by Senior QC Inspector and QAQC Manager

Skills / Qualifications

Personal Requirements:

  • A demonstrable commitment to safety in the workplace; leading by example
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Oil & Gas industry materials and equipment of same, e.g. mechanical, and electrical equipment, instrumentation, structural steel, piping materials
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years in the oil and gas industry in welding inspection
  • Attention to detail, commitment to a “Right - First - Time” ethos
  • Good coordination, interpersonal skills
  • Good written skills, ability to present data in a clear and concise manner
  • Self - motivating, well organized, resourceful, and proactive
  • Flexible approach and able to work under pressure with a can - do attitude and a commitment to meeting and maintaining compliance
