Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is recruiting for a Field Engineer (Mech / Piping) to join our team in Brunei. The project will run over a five - year period with a possible two - year extension. Wood has many years of experience in carrying such projects all over the world and it is our intention to bring our world class systems to this project. 


Purpose / Role

  • Accountable for accurate and consistent preparation and execution of the project Piping scope in accordance with the project schedule
  • Liaison with the design team to ensure constructability input is built into the design and that the detail design is installation friendly with the construction priorities 

Key aims and objectives

  • To play an active role in ensuring that all project HSE goals are achieved and where possible exceeded
  • To ensure all work is carried out in a safe and productive manner in line with Company and Client processes and procedures
  • To process safe completion of designated sub systems and systems in line with the project schedule and milestones in a consistent and timely manner
  • To assist in maintenance of the project budget through diligence and utilization of efficient and working practices

Prime responsibilities and duties

  • To be conversant with HS&E plan and to implement the HS&E procedures ensuring the health and safety of personnel
  • Directly responsible to company site representative on all engineering planning, commissioning, materials, and all other technical services essential to support the construction activities at the offshore worksite
  • Needs to ensure that the details included in the TA / NTA Plan are fully understood and properly applied by the Construction personnel and that all the project preparation made by the project / planning team is in order
  • Will work in close liaison with the company site representative and the Construction Superintendent to advise on the technical aspects of the project
  • Coordinates any requests from Construction Superintendent or any resources required by his subordinates
  • Liaise with project / planning and commissioning team and relevant company personnel for all design, planning, materials commissioning problems that may arise
  • Required to review project planning with a view to improve on the completion date, if possible during implementation. Person shall always know the current progress of the project with respect to planning and be able to give details of why a project is ahead / behind schedule at all times
  • Assess effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personnel, and team performances
  • Ensure that constructability is inherent within the design by being involved at the early stage of work scope and workpack compilation / development in accordance with company and project policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in all company and project safety initiatives
  • Monitor ongoing activities with regards to completion dates

Allied occasional duties

  • Participate and contribute to Amec Foster Wheeler / Client Emergency Response procedure and process
  • Participate and contribute in Amec Foster Wheeler nationalization / personnel development programmes
  • Be Aware of and practice fully the requirement for total safety attitude in all operations
  • Assist other disciplines, (within capability)

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications / Training



  • Degree or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering Discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in similar role
  • IT Literate (all major software packages e.g.: Excel, Word).
  • BOSIET / Approved Offshore Medical


  • Experienced in Amec Foster Wheeler work scope management tools and processes
  • Amec Foster Wheeler mandatory training, induction risk awareness etc.
  • Management NVQ Level 4 or 5Conversant with TRM process
  • MIST
  • WAH
  • First Step for Supervision





  • Significant experience in similar role, both in greenfield / brownfield locations, with a proven background of delivery
  • 10 years’ experience in similar role with at least 5 years in offshore oil and gas industry including experience in a major offshore project
  • Conversant with the workpack process, including familiarity with TRA, Peer Reviews, HAZID's / ENVID's, COSHH processes
  • Experienced in the production of detailed and accurate reports, technical queries, material requisitions and all other workpack related documents
  • Good knowledge of Oil & Gas related SHEQ working practices and procedures


  • Preferably a Bruneian

  • Good understanding of construction / commissioning activities / processes

Competencies - technical

  • Ability to interpret / understand / red - line project procedures and drawings, in particular extensive understanding of P&ID's / SLD's D&ID's, G.A's
  • Ability to produce technical documents, procedures and reports relating to the workpack process
  • IT Literate in all major software packages (Word / Excel)
  • Ability to compile technical queries to a high standard and provide acceptable solutions to design team for consideration
  • Ability to identify / scope accurate work scope requirements, tools, consumables etc. and produce detailed work scope estimates
