Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Proposals Manager with extensive experience in the Automation industry across a variety of sectors.  Playing a key role in developing and securing business with preparation of assigned proposals. The role will be based from home, with the reporting office in Northampton.


Responsibilities / Duties  

  • Work with the sales team and operations teams to prepare a proposal plan that meets the objectives of the proposals & estimating budget
    and timeline
  •  Provide overall management responsibility for a busy estimating and proposals function
  • Prepare and lead enquiry review, bid/no bid, margin management, risk analysis and commercial review meetings/discussions with senior
    management and directors, compliant with company policies and governance procedures
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of proposal engineers / estimators, with responsibility for checking output, compliance and
    accuracy of estimates & proposals
  • Review enquiry documentation to determine technical and commercial compliance, identify risk, allocate the requirements for support
    resources and ensure completion deadlines are met
  • Distribute enquiry documentation to others involved in the preparation of the proposals and estimate and manage the returns process
  • Maintain a knowledge of approved company vendors, estimating processes and procedures as well as project execution procedures
  • Obtain feedback from proposals and projects for “lessons learnt” to incorporate in future proposals
  • Management and development of proposals team in relation to technical & commercial capability and career progression
  • Focus on UK & Ireland with potential for growth in Pan European geographies
  • Drive innovation and customer value across target sectors
    o Automotive
    o Logistics
    o Life Science/FMCG
    o Nuclear & Defence
  • Play key role is meeting business targets of orders, revenue and margin


Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the industrial automation, control and automated machinery/robotics markets
  • Extensive industry experience in estimating & proposals / project management / process or EC&I engineering
  • Working knowledge & experience with preparation of budgets, schedules and cost estimates
  • Organisational skills and time management
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal for interface with customers and co-workers
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Effective computer skills, including MS Office Software. Excel skills
  • Ability to travel in the UK
