Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is recruiting for an experienced Principal Instrument Engineer to work on an ongoing EPCm contract based at a Pharmaceutical site in the Hertfordshire area.

 

This is a staff based role and will suit someone with experience working in the Pharmaceutical and/or FMCG and Building Services industries.

 

Responsibilities

  • Estimate and execute instrument engineering activities (Concept, Front End Engineering Development, Technical Study & Detailed Design)
  • Achieve safety standards as defined in personal performance contract
  • Responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems
  • Carry out work in accordance with company and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
  • Maintain the required technical quality or work
  • Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with Change Control Process
  • Ensure that designs comply with the relevant procedures, standards and regulations
  • Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule
  • Keep up to date with technical developments, National and International standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline.
  • Prepare estimates and schedules and assist in their review
  • Maintain good communication with the Client and visit Assets when necessary
  • Provide cover for the contract C&I focal point where required.

 

 

 

 

 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Experience running multiple concurrent small modifications projects (multi-discipline and C&I lead projects).
  • Pharmaceutical experience (Secondary sites desirable).
  • Experience with control and safety system upgrades and modifications (experience with Building Management Systems & Environmental Monitoring Systems is desirable).
  • Experience with specification of field instrumentation and automated valves (experience with instrumentation in building services, utilities and secondary pharma facilities is desirable).
  • Experience with specification of fire detection equipment and the application of BS5839-1 (desirable).
  • Knowledge of GAMP and FDA requirements (desirable).
  • HNC or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
  • Experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
  • Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation
  • Experienced in the use of design and assessment methods used within discipline
  • Competent in use of analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs
  • Significant experience in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting activities for the C&I discipline.
  • Conversant with other discipline key project activities and their interaction with/impact on the C&I scope.
  • Aware of commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering
  • Able to estimate man-hours and materials for delegated aspects of work
  • Able to work with other disciplines and draughting sections to meet delivery dates
  • Experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work
  • Competent in design safety / environmental requirements and procedures
