The Role
You will prepare and report project cost budgets, tracking, managing, forecasting and reporting of project expenditure to enable robust control of project throughout its lifecycle. - Review document requirements and issue dates for major equipment with suppliers and assist Procurement Department in compiling a Supplier’s Document Index.
- Assist Procurement Department with the expediting of supplier documents
- Ensure effective & efficient interdisciplinary co-ordination including Client co-ordination.
- Review and approve supplier documents for Instrumentation and distribute. This includes coordination activities with all involved agencies.
- Review in conjunction with Procurement Department all claims by supplier for an increase in the engineering scope of work.
- Give guidance to client, project engineers, other specialist engineers and inspectors on Instrument engineering matters. Review Instrument aspects of package unit supplier’s drawings as requested by the engineer responsible for the equipment.
- Ensure that Instrument engineering operations are complete in accordance with the approved project schedule and within allocated man-hours.
- Advise the Dy. Manager / Chief Engineer / Chief Specialist of any slippages and their causes and proposed correction, corrective or improvement action, any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups.
- Co-ordinate with Procurement Department and ensure certified drawings are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
- Notify the Project Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
- Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Engineer.
- Provide information where necessary to estimate the cost of contract changes, Alert the Project Engineer / Project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change and initiate change flags
- Follow up Instrumentation construction work on project sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation. Support for resolving Instrumentation Engineering issues arising during commissioning.
- Keep abreast of development in the Instrument engineering field.
- Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects and also contribute to discipline development activities.
- Assist where necessary in the compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.

This is a challenging and diverse role where they will have the opportunity to provide a complete planning service to the project management team on a complex project with a global reach.
The Planning Manager will be responsible for leading a team of planning engineers until the end of the construction phase. He/she will be a key member of the Integrated Program Management Team and will work under guidance of the Program Project Control Manager, initially in the PMC office in Reading.
The program is split into several projects, each with their own project delivery team (including planning resources and schedules). All projects are well advanced in the EPC phase and involve a variety of EPC contractors and locations. Regular & transparent communication of project progress, integration of multiple projects schedules, knowledge of critical path for the program and its components/projects are key factors of success.
This job will require presenting schedule topics to all levels including Board members, travel to the PMC’s office for work with the owner Team and the PMC and occasional trips to engineering offices/fabrication yards and to Belgium during the construction and start-up of the facilities.
Previous Experience:
- A minimum of twenty years experience in a process industry production and/or engineering environment with large (>$100MM) capital project management experience.10 years leadership experience
