This role will sit within our Water Engineering team, which focuses on delivering engineering services for the Industrial and Municipal Water Sector in the UK and Ireland and to provide engineering solutions to water treatment issues of the 21st century.  Our work covers a broad range of services incorporating engineering and consultancy services in the water sector, industrial and municipal and supporting Wood’s purpose to unlock solutions to deliver a net-zero future and enable a more sustainable, resilient and liveable world.   A typical day for this role will consist of the following: - Attending site visits for data acquisition and meeting site operators - To provide technical input to the procurement process - Produce Process Design deliverables such as: optioneering studies; process calculations, mass balance, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, sketches, basis of design reports, etc, to achieve the optimum solution for the project. - Undertaking outline or detailed process engineering design - Checking project calculations and deliverables - Working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary project delivery team and to ensure integration of Process Engineering design requirements into the overall engineering design - Working to the project programme for activities/deliverables and understanding interdependencies with other disciplines tasks - Supporting site-based commissioning work - Participating in regular team meetings and reviews and help to develop our process engineering group capability - Contributing to technical/safety reviews - Assisting colleagues and subordinates in achieving their objectives and providing feedback on team member performance to their line managers - Support to Project Managers in technical discussions with our clients - Discussions and liaison with technology providers and vendors - Design sprints - Taking a full part in HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID sessions - Design Reviews attendance - Value Engineering solutions - Regular interaction with junior process team members to provide review of documents or other tasks and facilitating on their on the job learning Join #TeamWood, you belong here You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team and will experience a challenging and fulfilling working environment. Wood is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer on a staff basis to be based in our Staines office supporting our Specialist Engineering & Consulting business unit.   Key Responsibilities: - Subsea pipe soil interaction calculations for sand, stiff clay, soft clay and silt seabed conditions. In house calculation sheet and user manual available, but vital to already have experience in this area with particular emphasis on Safebuck and DNV established practices. - Offshore geotechnical survey specification, including all survey equipment relevant to subsea pipeline and structures design, on site and laboratory testing and all final geotechnical reporting. - Soil interaction design of Subsea structures with mudmat and/or pile foundations, including seismic. - Onshore pipeline and structures soil interaction design including: - Buried pipelines - Pipe rack foundation - Buried anchor block - Landfall construction design geotechnics; including open cut constructions, micro and HDD tunnelling, sheet piled coffer dam construction, - Nearshore sediment erosion and deposition calculations - Nearshore wave and seismic triggered liquefaction calculations - Seismic effects on seabed and onshore surface soils - Geotechnical matters relating to onshore and offshore pile and caisson design and construction. - Interpretation of for example GIR documents and ensuring correct use of data in design - Application of geotechnical design Codes and RPs - Geotechnical design considerations with respect to pre-lay seabed interventions along steep escarpments and elsewhere, and pre-lay rock-dumping to mitigate for example excessive spans
